I don't think Dua will save you when an enemy is standing in front of you with a gun!
I’ve learned to never underestimate the power of dua :)
In the battle of Karbala, Hor ibn Yazid Riyahi blocked off water supply to Imam Hussain (as) and his beloved family and companions. Hor was the reason they were thirsty for days. But the duas caught up to him and after many moments of pondering, he eventually repented and came to join the peaceful force of Imam Hussain (as).
Thus, it’s true that we should ‘change our situations so that Allah may change our situations’ as in there must be imitative from us too.
However, duas have a power no gun has :) guns are fuelled by humans, duas are fuelled by Allah.

last year this kid had some water damage on this math textbook and when he turned it in at the end of the year the teacher asked him how it had gotten it wet and he looked her straight in the eye and said “from my tears”
“[Fatima] was not just a wife to Ali. Ali looked upon her as a friend, a friend who was familiar with his pains and his great wishes. She was his endless refuge, the one who listened to his secrets. She was the only companion of his loneliness.”—Dr. Ali Shariati, “Fatima is Fatima” (via torabestan)
